Friends of the Library

The Library is supported by a Chartered Club known as the Friends of the R.H. Johnson Library. The Friends' fundraising programs include Thursday Nite Movies at the Stardust Theatre, an annual endowment fund drive, and book sales held throughout the year. Monies raised by the Friends are used to purchase new books, equipment, and other materials for the Library. Download and print a "Friend of the R.H. Johnson Library" application form.
Sponsored by the Friends of the R.H. Johnson Library, movies are shown on Thursday evenings at 7 p.m. at the Stardust Theater for a donation of $2.

Endowment Fund

Throughout the year new books are being purchased and subscriptions
maintained to more than 170 magazines, newspapers and financial reports. Where does the money for all this come from? While your dues pay for the operation of the library (building, utilities, supplies, etc), the books, videos, tapes and other materials available in the library are paid for by the Friends of the Library.

Although the Friends do raise money in a number of ways, such as book sales and Thursday night movies, the majority of the money for these materials comes from the Endowment Fund. This fund is made up of contributions from residents of Sun City West who respond to our annual fund drive by mailing or dropping off a check or cash donation.

Many companies will match the gifts of their former employees, because the Friends is a 501(c)3 organization, and such gifts are tax-deductible.

Children's Department

The Children's Department offers puzzles, DVD's, books and five magazines: Babybug, Cricket, Ladybug, Muse and Spider.

During JULY Storytime will be provided every Thursday morning from 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. in the children's area of the library.  Stories are geared for the elementary age group.  Older siblings can browse the collection for Juvenile and Teen books available in that department.  No registration is necessary but members must bring their Rec Cards in order to check-out books, magazines or movies for their young visitors.

Story Time Adventure
Will be presented by Fran Buchanan with exciting, kid-friendly stories, coloring sheets, bookmarks, and
fun-finger plays for visiting youngsters.
